Stitches!

It's been an exciting summer. I'm so glad we had a couple of practice runs to the hospital, so we knew just what to do when Rowan fell down the last two steps in our concrete stairwell. We gave him a snuggle, cleaned him up a bit, then took him to the hospital. This time, we were in Burnaby, so we got to check out yet another hospital. Lucky for us, we checked in, and got in to the express line where only one other guy was waiting. He got a room first, then we did... and it was the same room - different bed though.

After being assessed, the nurse put a sticky patch on his head with a great big gob of anesthetic goop. Here he is:

Rowan and Harriet spent a while colouring while we waited for our turn. When the doctor came by, he said Rowan would need stitches. Poor guy. He really didn't know what he was getting. It was bad enough when the sticky pad had to come off and that was just the beginning. He then had the wound cleaned out with a needle, and the doctor was none to gentle. Then came the tough part - the actual stitches. Rowan was a tough guy, but I think Harriet get the actual tough guy award. She watched the whole thing!

Here's Rowan with his three stitches:

He was very sad and upset for a long time (understandably), but he wouldn't let that stop our planned trip to Langley. He did pass on berry picking though. He wanted a nice, relaxing time at Namma's, so Rowan and Mommy hung out there while Namma and Harriet picked us a couple buckets of berries. Mmmm...

After a good night's rest, he has bounced back and he's completely unaffected by his stitches. We thought he might not be able to do his swimming lessons, but it turns out it's ok. Lucky guy. Here's his stitches today, two days after the fall:
